Steven Christian is a visual artist who creates quirky comics and cartoons to support his journey through medical school. Beyond storytelling, he is an MD/PhD student in Integrative Neuroscience, researching sensory conflict and post-concussion symptoms as he works toward becoming a traumatic brain injury specialist.
What began as a passion for art while playing football at Oregon State evolved into a unique path that blends storytelling, medicine, and immersive technology to empower underserved communities and improve health literacy.
Through his creative studio, Iltopia, Steven uses augmented reality to turn complex medical concepts into accessible, interactive adventures. One example is his recent project, Cütie Catcherz, which transforms the microbiology of dermatological infections into a fun, character-driven comic designed to help readers—particularly in Black and Brown communities—reclaim their health agency.
Steven’s nontraditional path allows him to bridge the gap between clinical science and pop culture, making advanced medical knowledge more engaging, accessible, and genuinely enjoyable for the people who need it most.
